How To Install Wall Anchors in 5 Easy Steps

We just finished installing open shelving in our kitchen. We had an awkward blank space above our sink and wanted to put something there. We were debating about putting up a planter but then decided that shelves would be more practical and easier to clean.

Here is the Video form of this post
Before the Shelves

For these shelves I used Flip Toggle anchors.  When installing items that are heavier it is important to use anchors especially when drilling into dry wall.  The anchors helps the screw to grab and hold better onto something a lot sturdier that just the drywall.

Installing Flip Toggle Anchors

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to use these Flip Toggle Anchors in 5 easy steps

Flip Toggle Anchor

Items I used:

  • Drill
  • 5/8 in Spade Drill Bit
  • Screws
  • Fip Toggle anchors

Step 1 Drill Hole

Choose a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the metal bracket on the flip top. It should create a hole where you can fit the metal bracket through. I used this 5/8 in Spade Drill Bit. Drill your hole.

Step 2 Push in the Top

On the metal top of the anchor push down the piece with the tail. Push the metal top through the hole you drilled until the metal piece is on the other side of the wall. The metal piece should be laying flat on the other side of the wall

This is what it looks like on the other side of the wall

Step 3 Push up the plastic knob

Push up the knob plastic piece all the way up so it fits securely into the hole your created

Step 4 Snap off tail

Pull the tail either direction to snap off the tail.

Step 5 Drill in your screw

Now you can drill in your screw into the anchored hole you created, attaching your heavier item. These are good to use for hanging curtains, Heavier planters, Shelves etc.
