Now that we have completed the work we finally listed the property on airbnb. See airbnb link for
I’ll take you room by room each week to reveal the before and afters.
This week I will show you how the living room turned out.
Living Room Reveal
The first thing we did with the living room was repaint it. It was yellow before and we hired painters to paint the entire living room ultra white. It was too big of a job to do ourselves so we had to hire someone. We did however paint the trim black. This made the space look so much cleaner and fresher.
When we bought the house there was a wall covered in weird textured wall paper. The painters said it would be expensive to remove so I thought it would be best just to cover it with wood. Adding wood is also a great way to add warmth and texture to a home. The shiplap was pretty easy to install and I created finishing edges on the side. I decorated the wall with some faux wreaths to add more elements to it.
I added wood to the mantel so that it coordinated better with the house. I used two pieces of common board and stained them same color as the shiplap wall. I did two angled cuts on the table saw so that the two boards fit together. One piece I used as the top of the mantel and one piece was for the face it. I used wood glue and glued them together. Then I drilled them to the mantel. I used wood filler to fill in the gaps and then stained the mantel again. I decorated it for Christmas a little as well
I wanted to create a warm and comfortable environment for guests. I stayed at some vacation rentals and noticed the couches and furniture were not very comfortable so I really wanted to get comfortable furniture for guests to feel more at home when they are vacationing. I love the tufted look so we got this tufted leather couch that fit in perfectly with the modern western theme from wayfair. The rest of the items we mostly got from estate and garage sales. The entertainment unit we got at an estate sale and already has a western look. I added some rugs to make the room feel more cozy and tie the room together. I used carpet tape to make sure that they stayed put on the tile floor.
